Physical therapy starts with a consultation with your primary care provider to assess your healthcare needs. Based on the results of your initial consultation, your doctor may prescribe a physical therapy treatment plan. This plan may include stretches, exercises, massages, and use of specialized equipment to get your body back to where it needs to be.
Your doctor may suggest physical therapy if you are dealing with an injury or illness that makes it challenging to do daily tasks. By using a combination of exercise, massages, and physical stimulus, physical therapy can help reduce pain and improve movement.
As you progress through your physical therapy treatments, your primary care provider and physical therapist will work with you to make any adjustments, if needed. Once you are back to optimal health, you can “graduate” from physical therapy if your physical therapist deems you are ready.
